I gave up trying to fix it, effort involving installing with various Compatibility Modes failed. Please try installing Windows Essentials programs again. It was then that I was faced with the now all-too-familiar error message upon install:
My first encounter with WLM not installing under Windows 10 was with a client who had been using WLM with Windows 10 (it would install and work fine under previous Build numbers) but that encountered a seemingly unrelated issue which I tried to resolve by uninstalling the application and reinstalling it. Due to Windows Live Mail (WLM) no longer installing under Windows 10 (and increasing numbers of Windows Live Mail users needing to upgrade from Windows 7 before Microsoft stop support for it early next year), I’ve been switching a number of my clients over to Mozilla Thunderbird as their mail application (rather than using 10’s Mail, due to various issues I’ve encountered over the years with that).
